Trance Like It’s 1999

August 30th, 2007

Taken straight from this thread on globalbeatz.net, here is a list of upcoming events at Sky in Austin (and one event @ Planeta Bar Rio, in San Antonio)

08.24.07 >> second sun(live) @ sky(austin, tx)
09.12.07 >> john digweed @ bar rio(san antonio, tx)
09.21.07 >> bad boy bill @ sky(austin, tx)
09.27.07 >> sasha, dj three @ sky(austin, tx)
10.04.07 >> blank & jones @ sky(austin, tx)
10.12.07 >> above & beyond @ sky(austin, tx)

11.09.07 >> judge jules @ sky(austin, tx)
11.15.07 >> gabriel & dresden @ sky(austin, tx)

tickets available @ http://www.groovetickets.com

OMG LOOKIT ALL THAT TRAAAANCE and PROG!! I feel like it’s 1999 all over again (and Sasha, BBB, Digweed, and Judge Jules on the lineup confirms that for me). I plan on being @ the Migs show definitely, but the others … probably not. Trance & prog just ain’t my cup of tea.

A couple other goodies for you kids out there:

  • 9/14: SMT’s 9-Year Anniversary Party with Charles Feelgood, Scott Henry, Freaky Flow, Prophet, and a shit-ton of locals @ Sky.

    null

  • 9/21: Bad Boy Bill @ Sky.
  • 10/27: Baby Anne @ Sky w/support from BucklUp.

Looks like headliner madness!!

I still miss the techno (and the drum and bass!). And I agree with one of the comments in the above thread, which opines that the same locals get booked over and over again in this town. It’s true.

C’est la vie - I probably would play out more if I went out and networked/promoted myself more, but I don’t have the energy or time. I do go out when I can, but it’s not enough to expose myself to the people who book shows. Ah well, that’s why I have thrown a couples parties recently, and also why I am spending my life in here :-)

Boat Party Pics + Upcoming Events

July 23rd, 2007

If you missed the boat party, you missed out on a kickass time. The weather was perfect - not too hot, not too cold, and no rain in sight. We had some bangin music from Rob Nelson, Scot Gray, Michaelangelo, Steel Grooves, and myself. Here are some pictures that my friends Shawna and Vivek took:

Yeah in that last one … I totally look like I wet my pants … well … we were on a boat, it was kind of hard to not wet your pants :-)

Well as things get back to normal around here, and by normal I mean I’m-not-struggling-to-plan-and-book-and-promote-a-boat-party, I figured I’d clue ya’ll in on what is coming up in the next month or so:

Another Bloggy Blog

June 9th, 2007

The other day I was randomly contacted by Joel of ElectronicAustin to let me know about his site. In addition to covering the minimal/electropop thing, Joel writes software for Open Labs, a badass music-oriented company here in town. They make hybrid computer/synthesizers for music production and performance. Side note, I live in the CEO of that company’s former house. Very small world, this place is :-)

Anyway, a fine Austin electronic music scene welcome to Joel and ElectronicAustin. Go on over and say hello!

Rehab Sundays 5/20/07

May 20th, 2007

What’s better than an electronic music party? An electronic music party outside. What’s better than an electronic music party outside? An electronic music party outside in the sunshine. Yeah you heard me right - Rehab Sundays is a new weekly event on the block. It takes place @ Red’s Scoot Inn (4th & Navasota) Sunday afternoons all summer. Here’s a couple pictures from the first installment, today,

Whoopsy! Nite is back and this time we’re celebrating Merrick Brown’s 30th birthday. I can’t think of a better way than to have a crazy wrestling match between DJs and bands. Can you? How about if the match also features a towering green alien She-Hulk wannabe ?

Yeah, this shit gets DEEP.

Eeyore’s Birthday Party

April 29th, 2007

Yesterday I went to Eeyore’s Birthday Party for the first time, and it was awesome. One thing you can’t avoid there is the massive spontaneous drum circles - there are at least 3 or 4 scattered all over Pease Park. They’re completely unorganized - you just bring a djembe or a snare or some hi-hats, set up, and join in on the jamming. I know it’s not electronic music, but the rhythms were so much like some great tribal techno that I had to share a couple videos:
